10 Easy Ways To Use Less Plastic

Choose to refuse single-use plastic, here are 10 really easy tips to help you get started!

 

1. CARRY A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE

One of the simplest ways you can reduce your waste is to eliminate single use plastic waterbottles from your day-to-day life. Make it a habit to carry a reusable waterbottle with you and refill as you need! 3. BRING YOUR OWN COFFEE CUP OR MUG

Did you know, in Ireland approximately 200 million single-use coffee cups are thrown away every year! But don't worry you don't have to skip your morning treat, simply opt for a reusable insulated cup instead - they are durable and will also keep your coffee warmer for longer (which is especially helpful in the cold Irish winter).

4. DO NOT USE PLASTIC PRODUCT BAGS

9. MAKE FOOD FROM SCRATCH 

Cooking from scratch is a great way to reduce your plastic household waste! By buying raw ingredients that aren't prepackaged and preserved in plastic, you are saving on unnecessary plastic packaging that would otherwise be disposed of in landfill. Plus, cooking from scratch means you can control what goes in your meals - ensuring they are not just delicious, but also healthy and full of essential nutrients!

10. REUSE FIRST THEN RECYCLE 

First think reuse, then think recycle! If an item is truly at the end of it's useful life don't just throw it away. See if there is a way you can upcycle it and reuse it in a different way (old clothes can easily be donated or cut up and used as cleaning clothes). Where possible, always recycle and make sure you check your local council rules on recycling as there may be additional disposal services you aren't aware of.
